Nancy organized a surprise visit of the entire second generation to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for the Old Man's 75th birthday on October 5, 1978. The five kids met in the Mexico City Airport, rented a car and drove to San Miguel (approximately four hours north), and then nearly gave the OM a heart attack when they burst into a bridge game at Aunt Sunny's (widow of Uncle Jay, the Old Man’s brother). He had absolutely no idea anything was planned. Good party all weekend. These photos were taken by Nancy in the yard of OM's house.

Scan 1 -- Emptying bladders on the road to San Miguel after much beer.
Scan 4 -- OM when we walked in on his bridge game in San Miguel at Aunt Sunny's. Steve said beforehand that when we walked in on the OM and he did not pee in his pants, the trip would be a waste. While this was an extremely emotional moment for the OM, he was somehow able to keep his bladder under control.
Scan 7 -- Aunt Sunny with San Miguel in background.
Scan 11, 23 -- Barbara Dunham with the Old Man. She was introduced to us as his 'bridge partner.' He married Barbara 2-1/2 years later in Alabama.
Scan 25, 26, 27 -- Street scenes in San Miguel, with 2d gen returning from shopping trip.
Scan 28 -- OM taking us into the house he bought for him and Polly. When she wanted a bigger house, he bought the one shown in Scan 29 and most of the photos in this collection. Polly's daughter Summer moved into the smaller house. By this time, however, Summer had moved to Hawaii, so the house was unoccupied and for sale.
Scan 29 -- Outside of OM's house.
Scan 32, 34, and others -- In the back yard/garden of OM's house.
Scan 33 -- Shows the posters (see Scans 36a and 36b) taped to the window in the Solarium. Nancy did this for the 75th Birthday Party the night before.
Scan 35 -- Panaromic view of San Miguel de Allende.
Scan 36A -- Poster of OM in New York City at age 25.
Scan 36B -- Poster of OM at Rocking Chair Ranch, Tallahassee, at age 50.
Scan 52 -- Steve tickling the Old Man.
Note: Nancy took most of the photos of people in the garden and Steve took a lot of exterior photos and the ones on the streets of SM.
